Lightning, power surges, power drops, blackouts, and brownouts can all wreck havoc with a computer’s
electrical components. There are really no parts that are immune including network cards, sound cards,
video adapters, modems, memory, motherboards, and even CPUs. Hard drives, floppy drives, CD ROMs,
CD/RW drives, DVD players, power supplies, and cooling fans all have moving parts that can and will
fail. Once a failed part is identified, repairs are a simple matter of replacing the bad part. However,
some amount of troubleshooting is usually required first.
